The final of the First Women’s Open Championship took place on Palermo’s number two ground prior to the final of the 124th Men’s Argentine Open. Six teams between 23 and 30 goals took part in the Women’s Open.

Both teams reached the final undefeated, but in the end La Dolfina Brava beat Ellerstina 7 goals to 6 in extra chukka to claim the title. Nina Clarkin was the one who scored the golden goal, a 30-yard penalty, to take her team to victory.

The first chukka of the match was fast and open, with both teams running to goal, but the second was the opposite: rough and tangled with no goals. From then on, La Dolfina Brava started to set the tone, but they could not get the ball through the posts. A goal from Milagros Fernández Araujo towards the end of the third period gave La Dolfina Brava a small advantage before half time (4-3). That advantage grew over the next two chukkas until they were 6-3 up with only one chukka left.

But Lia Salvo came out in full fury in the last, and her team did the unthinkable: they scored three goals to take the match into extra chukka. After two attempts by sisters Candelaria and Milagros Fernández Araujo, Nina Clarkin won a foul to get a 30-yard penalty. She maintained her cool to score and give La Dolfina the Championship.
