New Zealand Squad

New Zealand will be participating in the FIP World Polo Championship in Sydney, Australia, after beating Malaysia in the FIP Zone D Qualifiers, which took place at Thai Polo & Equestrian Club. The report from that day can be seen here.

New Zealand will play in Pool B alongside England, India and defending champions Chile.

PLAYERS & COACH
HENRY JONES
Age: 25.
Place of birth: Auckland, New Zealand.
When started playing: 16 years of age.
Where started playing: Hololio Polo Club.
Handicap record: 3.
Major tournaments played in: N.Z. Open, Savile Cup Tournament, N.P.A. Dewar Cup. Poverty Bay Open.
Countries played in: NZL, Argentina, Australia, UK, France, Germany, Spain.
Represented country: NZ Colts as well as FIP Zone Finals 2017 in Thailand. 
Ambitions: To hone his polo skills to become the best polo player he can be.
Other interests/information: Hails from long line of polo players; it is in his DNA! Henry has worked in Australia for the late Jim McGinley, Guy Kirkpatrick and James Ashton and has done 4 seasons for Ollie Cudmore in Argentina. Currently playing at Cirencester with Rob Cudmore. Also a competent horse trainer, winning 3 Champion Ponies last year including OPAL "Champion Pony" at the International.

CODY FORSYTH
Age: 57
Place of birth: Auckland, New Zealand.
When started playing: 12 years of age.
Where started playing: Rangitikei Polo Club.
Handicap record: 8.
Major tournaments played in: 3 time winner of the Queen’s Cup, 3 time winner of Coronation Cup, and winner of Winchester Cup, Savile Cups, NZ Open, Poverty Open, Dewar Cup. 
Countries played in: NZL, UK, USA, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Argentina, Thailand.
Represented country: 40 times!
Ambitions: To coach and lead the NZ FIP team to victory whilst still being a good sport!
Other interests/information: An outstanding, more mature player who will prove to be the linchpin of this NZ team. Having achieved a handicap of 8 goals, his leadership, guidance and experience will set this team in good stead.

GLEN SHERRIFF
Age: 28
Place of birth: Gisborne, New Zealand.
When started playing: 11 years of age!
Where started playing: Poverty Bay Polo Club in Gisborne.
Handicap record: 5.
Major tournaments played in: Won 2 NZ Opens and 1 Savile Cup. Won 2 Duke of Wellingtons in UK, plus 1 Holden White, The Country Cup and both 12 and 15 goal Victor Luduroms in 2016. 
Countries played in: NZL, UK, China, Malaysia, Australia.
Represented country: China Snow Polo (2), FIP Zone D Finals Thailand, NZ V Argentina, NZ V England, NZ FIP Team Sydney.
Ambitions: Looking to add FIP WPC to his list of wins! To own his own farm.
Other interests/information: Comes from strong farming background. Loves training his polo ponies, watching rugby and all sports.

GUY HIGGINSON
Age: 30.
Place of birth: Palmerston North, New Zealand.
When started playing: 15 years of age.
Where started playing: Waipara Polo Club.
Handicap record: 5.
Major tournaments played in: NZ Open, Savile tournament, Dewar Cup, Gould Cup, Poverty Bay Open. 
Countries played in: NZL, UK, Australia, Germany.
Represented country: NZ Under 21 Team (twice).
Ambitions: To be the very best polo player he can be.
Other interests/information: Has a family business specialising in polo saddles. Big strong player, with strength inherited from his ex All Black father! Recreational relaxation is fishing, wakeboarding and golf. 

JONNY JONES
Age: 23.
Place of birth: Invercargill, New Zealand.
When started playing: 16 years.
Where started playing: Roddy Wood’s SUPA Polo at Sefton.
Handicap record: 2.
Major tournaments played in: NZ SUPA Polo vs Australia Schools, South Island Colts, Gould Cup, Savile Cup Tournament. N.Z. Open Tournament. 
Countries played in: NZL, UK, Australia.
Represented country: NZ Schools team V Australia Schools, NZ Colts.
Ambitions: To get to 10 goals, but 8 will suffice!
Other interests/information: Passion for helicopter flying, jet boating, polo and parties.

KIT BROOKS
Age: 32.
Place of birth: Auckland, New Zealand.
When started playing: 19 years of age.
Where started playing: Mystery Creek Polo Club.
Handicap record: 5.
Major tournaments played in: FIP Finals Mexico, FIP Zone D Finals Thailand, NZ Open, Savile Cup, Dewar Cup, Poverty Bay Open, Kihikihi 10-Goal.
Countries played in: NZL, UK, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, USA. 
Represented country: FIP Finals Mexico, FIP Zone D Finals Thailand, Snow Polo China.  2017 NZL  V England.
Ambitions: To be a member of the winning FIP World Cup Team.
Other interests/information: Off season spends his time breaking in and pre training racehorses for some of NZ and Australia’s top trainers. 

MARK DUNCAN
Age: 25.
Place of birth: Marton, New Zealand.
When started playing: 2007.
Where started playing: Rangitikei Polo Club.
Handicap record: 2.
Major tournaments played in: Savile Tournament, N.Z. Open, Dewar Cup, Barrett Memorial, Poverty Bay Open.
Countries played in: NZL, UK.
Represented country: N.Z. Colts Team.
Ambitions: To win the 2017 FIP World Cup.
Other interests/information: Hails from Rangitikei Club where his family have been members since the Club’s very interception. He farms in the Rangitikei. 

SAM MARTIN
Age: 19.
Place of birth: Rangiora, New Zealand.
When started playing: 12.
Where started playing: At family farm. Then Hurunui Polo Club.
Handicap record: 3.
Major tournaments played in: Won Savile Cup and Prince of Wales Trophy at the Savile Cup tournament for Most Promising player. Gould Cup, NZ Open Tournament. 
Countries played in: New Zealand, Australia, USA.
Represented country: NZ U18 Team for 4 years against Australia, South Africa and USA. Captained team for last 2 years.  
Ambitions: To become a professional polo player and play in the England high goal. 
Other interests/information: Young player from Hurunui Club in South Island. At Lincoln University. Training his ponies is his favourite part of his game. He believes a player is only as good as the horse power beneath him. Also enjoys Hunting and Fishing
