The first edition of the San Eugenio Ladies Cup (12-goal) came to an end on Friday at San Eugenio Polo Club.
After winning their previous matches, Escorihuela Gascon KIA (Daniela Barreto, Joaquina Pla, Mili Martinez Allende & Lia Salvo) and El Metejón (Alice Servaes, Cornelia Heufele, Fleur Van Andel & Marianela Castagnola) qualified for the main final.
It was a 5-chukka match, and Escorihuela Gascon started off with a 3.5 goal advantage due to handicap. They managed to keep that difference until the fourth chukka.
El Metejon really applied the pressure and started to close the gap. After two assists by Marianela Castagnola and a couple of runs by Fleur Van Andel, they reached the fifth and last chukker only 1.5 goals behind (7-8.5).
El Metejon scored again in the last chukka, so they were only half a goal behind. But Escorihuela managed to widen the difference to 1.5 once more.
El Metejón scored again with two minutes left on the clock, but in the end Escorihuela Gascon managed to keep that 0.5 goal advantage to claim the first edition of the San Eugenio Ladies Cup.
Before the final, two subsidiary finals were played on ground two.
In the second subsidiary, Candelaria del Monte made a great comeback in the last scoring three consecutive goals to win.
The day opened with a game between La Dolfina Brava and La Irenita. They finished the match tied 4-all and went into extra chukker. After both teams failed to score in overtime, it was agreed that title would be shared between both teams.
