On Friday morning, before to the big finals of the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2017, the last match of the Polo Academy Cup took place at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, in Dubai. The meeting was on ground one, where, a couple of hours later, we would see Zedan and Julius Baer Team battle it out for the most coveted trophy of Middle East.

The Polo Academy is one of the many activities organized by the Al Habtoor Polo & Resort Club; it allows people to get involved with the sport and play in the best conditions possible and on first class fields.

The teams that took part of the Polo Academy Cup were:
TEAM BUENOS AIRES: Jamison Sexton, Philippe Chan, Dave Rifks, Alejandro Gowland.
TEAM SAN LUIS: Riccardo Dana, Felipe Dana, Tiernan O'Rourke, Santi Gomez Romero.
TEAM CORDOBA: Lise Bernard, Rishikumar Bhansali, John Banford, Justo Cuitiño.
TEAM MENDOZA: Edouard, Alicia Woods, Ian Dímelo, Justo Mouriño.

"The goal of the school is to develop the sport of polo in Dubai, to encourage all the people that are keen to try it, to learn and play it at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club. The school aims to work with kids, teenagers and grown ups and bring polo to both the locals and the foreigners that come to Dubai on vacations. We have people of all ages: from 8 years old to 70 and we offer all levels. The activities run from October through middle of May," states Polo Academy's Alejandro Gowland.

"Now that the St. Regis Hotel has been opened, we can offer packages like polo weeks for the people that come to Dubai on business trips, so they can end their work-day doing stick and ball or playing a practice. We gather many regular members that come since the very beginning together with people that come for a while and play every time they visit the country."

Lastly, they highlight another aspect of the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club's Polo Academy: "The Academy will encourage mainly the medium and low goal in Dubai; at the end of the day we aim to have tournaments during the months around the Gold Cup Series. We already had more than sixty people that visited us since the opening, and every week we receive new people. One of the ideas for next season is to add more horses, so we can organize more tournaments for all levels. We have to thank Mohammed Al Habtoor that is a big help for us and keeps on promoting polo in Dubai."
