Coca Cola and Tonkawa will play the final of the 20-goal Ylvisaker Cup at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Following two intense semifinal games, Coca Cola beat an undefeated Orchard Hill by 11 goals to 10, while Tonkawa beat Postage Stamp Farm 13-12.
In the first semifinal, Coca Cola played their best match of the season against Orchard Hill. Gillian Johnston's foursome - with Duilio Diaz filling in for an injured Del Walton - got off to a strong start, gaining an 8-5 lead by half time. Coca Cola displayed fantastic team play, overwhelming Orchard Hill who, despite their efforts, couldn't find their ideal form.
In the fifth chukker, there was a collision between Gillian Johnston and Duilio Diaz, which luckily had no consequences for either player. However, there was a dramatic moment in the sixth; with four minutes on the clock, Facundo Pieres and Julio Arellano collided, and Facundo suffered a heavy fall. This forced Facundo to leave the field; he was replaced by cousin Polito. Coca Cola was leading 11-7 in that chaotic sixth chukka, when Julio Arellano was red carded and sent off with two minutes left on the clock.
Orchard Hill woke up, scoring three unanswered goals to cut the margin down to one. In those last minutes, Coca Cola had to keep their defence strong to maintain the narrow lead. They did just that, winning the match 11-10 and qualifying for the final.
Score Coca Cola: 3-2, 5-3, 8-5, 9-6, 10-6, 11-10
Top scorer Coca Cola: Julio Arellano (7)
Top scorer Orchard Hill: Facundo Pieres (4)
Up next, Tonkawa and Postage Stamp Farm played a very hard fought contest. Tonkawa gained slight advantages throughout, thanks to Sapo Caset, the top scorer of the game.
Postage Stamp Farm managed to take the lead in the fifth; they were 11-10 up with one chukka remaining. A nailbiting sixth chukka followed. Facundo Obregon scored to tie at 11-all, but Postage Stamp Farm's Mariano Aguerre replied quickly to retake the lead. Both teams struggled to get ahead, but in the end Facundo Obregon scored a couple of goals to seal the win that put them in the final.
Score Tonkawa: 3-2, 5-2, 7-6, 9-7, 10-11, 13-12
Top scorer Tonkawa: Sapo Caset (10)
Top scorer Postage Stamp Farm: Mariano Aguerre (5)
